4th of July Things to Do in Duck, NC

Watch the Parade

First, mark July 3 on your calendar. Duck’s beloved 4th of July Parade rolls out at 9:00 a.m. and runs until 11:00 a.m.

The one-mile parade route winds through the heart of Duck:

  • Starts at the crest of the hill on Scarborough Lane
  • Heads east toward the ocean
  • Turns onto Ocean Way, then Christopher Drive
  • Finishes at Pamela Court

Note: No part of the parade takes place on Duck Road.

Enjoy the Community Celebration

Afterward, head straight to Duck Town Park. The Community Celebration follows immediately with:

  • Live music
  • Cold refreshments
  • Fresh watermelon from Green Acres Farm Market
  • Parade trophy awards (Mayor’s Award, Best Local Business, Best Community Entry, and Spirit Award)

Want to participate? Registration is free, but required. Submit your entry by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Veterans are especially welcome to join the march.

Race Across the Dunes at Jockey’s Ridge

Next, lace up your shoes for a truly unique Outer Banks adventure. On July 3 at 8:00 a.m., the Killer Dunes 2-Mile Run takes over Jockey’s Ridge State Park.

Jockey’s Ridge is the tallest natural sand dune system in the eastern U.S. Running it is a challenge unlike any other race.

  • Competitive runners love the difficulty
  • Walkers are absolutely welcome, too
  • It’s a perfect way to earn that vacation rental relaxation afterward

Also on July 3 at 8:15 a.m., celebrate Jockey’s Ridge State Park’s 50th anniversary with the 1-Mile Color Fun Run. It’s bright, festive, and perfect for families staying in OBX vacation homes nearby.

Catch the 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular in Nags Head

Then, cap off Independence Day weekend in style. The Town of Nags Head lights up the sky on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 9:00 p.m.

The fireworks spectacular takes place at the Nags Head Fishing Pier. It’s hosted in partnership with the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau. Simply grab a spot on the beach, settle in, and watch the show.

Staying nearby in a Salty-Fin Realty beach rental makes the whole night easy. Walk out, watch the fireworks, and walk back. No driving. No parking stress.

Start Your Mornings Right with Wake Up Wednesdays

Furthermore, your OBX stay doesn’t have to mean skipping your workout routine. Wake Up Wednesdays runs from June 3 through August 19, 2026, every Wednesday from 7:30–8:30 a.m., and it’s completely free.

Rotating classes keep things fresh all summer:

  • Tai Chi with Kathi (June 3, June 10, July 15, August 5)
  • Resistance Bands with Sara (June 17, July 8, July 29, August 12, August 19)
  • Core & Stretch with Chris (June 24, July 1, July 22, August 26)

It’s a great way to start a beach day on the right foot. Your Salty-Fin Realty vacation rental is just minutes from the action.

Build Your Core with Fitness Fridays at Dowdy Park

In addition to Wednesdays, Fitness Fridays bring Pilates to Dowdy Park all summer long. Classes run June 5 through August 14, 2026, every Friday from 7:30–8:30 a.m.

Like Wake Up Wednesdays, it’s free and open to everyone. Follow Dowdy Park on Facebook or Instagram to stay updated on class details.

Enjoy Free Live Music at the Dowdy Park Summer Concert Series

Of course, no OBX vacation is complete without great music under the stars. The Dowdy Park Summer Concert Series runs June 10 through September 2, 2026, every Tuesday from 6:30–8:00 p.m. Admission is always free.
